__Summary__:

Abstract-The main aim of suspension system is to
isolate a vehicle body from road irregularities in
order to maximize passenger ride comfort and
retain continuous road wheel contact in order to
provide road holding. The present work aims at
developing an active suspension for the quarter car
model of a passenger car to improve its
performance by using a proportional integral
derivative (PID) controller. The controller design
deals with the selection of proportional, derivative
gain and integral gain parameters (Kp, Ki, and
Kd). The results show that the active suspension
system has reduced the peak overshoot of sprung
mass displacement, sprung mass acceleration,
suspension travel and tire deflection compared to
passive suspension system.
