This workbook provides basic programming pr inciples necessary to begin programming the HAAS C.N.C. Lathe. In a “CNC” (Computer ized Numer ical Cont rol ) machine, the tool is cont rol led by a computer and is programmed wi th a machine code system that enables i t to be operated wi th minimal supervision and wi th a great deal of repeatabi l i ty

Summary:
The same pr inciples used in operat ing a manual machine are used in programming a CNC machine. The main di f ference is that instead of cranking handles to posi t ion a sl ide to a cer tain point , the dimension is stored in the memory of the machine cont rol once. The cont rol wi l l then move the machine to these posi t ions each t ime the program is run. In order to operate and program a CNC cont rol led machine, a basic understanding of machining pract ices and a working knowledge of math is necessary. I t is also impor tant to become fami l iar wi th the cont rol console and the placement of the keys, swi tches, displays, etc. , that are per t inent to the operat ion of the machine. This Haas lathe workbook can be used for both operator ’s and programmer ’s. I t is meant as a supplementary teaching aid for the user of HAAS Lathes. The informat ion in this workbook may apply in whole or in par t to the programming of other CNC machines. I t is intended to give a basic understanding of CNC programming and i t ’s appl icat ions. I t is not intended as an in-depth study of al l ranges of the machine use, but as an overview of common and potent ial si tuat ions facing CNC programmers. Much more t raining and informat ion is necessary before at tempt ing to program on the machine. For a complete explanat ion and an in-depth descr ipt ion, refer to the Programming and Operat ion Manual that is suppl ied wi th your HAAS lathe.
