pdf fileSizing and Selection of Control Valves
The control valve is the most important single element in any fluid handling system, because it regulates the flow of fluid to the process. To properly select a control valve, a general knowledge of the process and components is usually necessary. This reference section can help you select and size the control valve that most closely matches the process requirements

pdf fileCONTROL VALVE SELECTION AND SIZING ENGINEERING DESIGN GUIDELINES
The control valve is the most common type of final control element in a process control system. The final control element is the mechanism which alters the value of the manipulated variable in response to the output signal of an automatic controller, a manually manipulated control device, or direct manual manipulation. The operation of a control valve can be pneumatic or electrical. Many process engineers face issues to correctly select and size a control valve. Control valves have different flow characteristics and the valve selection is largely based upon the type of application or process where the valve is going to be installed. An oversized valve will introduce extra cost and have difficulties in controlling the flow at low rates whereas an undersized valve might not be able to handle the maximum capacity of the process flow.
